They were well made and had many similarities to products made in the German werks in Stuttgart. Craftsmanship was a bit more utilitarian in appearance. Here is a postcard showing the modern and spacious Bosch magneto Company in Springfield, Mass before WW1, probably or

Germany Application my a, , ]. The object of the present invention is the lubrication of these spiral springs. During the travelling period the convolutions of the spiral spring are repeatedly drawn together and ten. This layer provides the further advantage that the spring is rendered more flexible, be-. The layer also increases the stability of the spring inasmuch as the oscillations caused by quick tensioning and releasing are damped.

Production of the 3 horsepower type ‘M’ engines began in and continued through the Great Depression until see figure The very first few 3 horsepower ‘M’s used only one pushrod. Both exhaust valve and ignitor were operated by this single pushrod, which was quickly discontinued. The two push rod version was then adopted.

This invention concerns an ignition system for an internal combustion engine of the kind powered by a magneto generator that does not require the interposition of a storage battery in the system and incorporates engine speed limiting by intermittent suppression of ignition. A known system of this type is disclosed in German patent publication DE-OS 27 51 in which two monostable multivibrator circuits, commonly referred for short as “monoflops”, connected one behind the other, are utilized for engine speed limiting.
The output of the last monoflop is connected, along with the output of an electronic control apparatus for ignition timing, to the control input of an interruptor switch through an AND-gate. When the maximum permissible engine speed is overstepped, the AND condition of the gate is no longer satisfied and ignition is thereby suppressed. For repetitively turning on the monoflops and triggering the control apparatus, a separate control transducer is provided that is driven by the engine, and a voltage supply separate therefrom is necessary for energizing the ignition system.
The system just described has the disadvantage that in the case of a magneto ignition system a supplemental control transducer is required in addition to the magneto generator supplying the supply voltage, because the trigger pulses for the monoflops must be produced at regular intervals dependent upon the engine speed.

Ignition & Electrical Parts
The young Robert Bosch did all the precision-mechanical and electrical-engineering work that came his way in order to keep his business running. For the most part, this involved installing low-voltage equipment such as telephone terminals, electric bells, door openers, remote electrical water-level indicators, and later pneumatic tube pipelines and electric lighting.
Yet despite this extensive portfolio, orders were often sparse during the early years, leaving Bosch struggling to keep his workforce busy and pay their wages. Still, he wanted to do the best he could by them. Sometimes on Friday afternoon, he had to ask a neighboring wealthy shop owner for money tio pay his workers. In addition, he needed more capital to invest in modern equipment for his workshop.
Most of the work we do involves magnetos as fitted to Veteran, Vintage and Classic machines. This includes all types of Stationary Engines, Tractors, Boats.
Great Shape. Here is an old Bosch ZE1 one cylinder magneto. It seems to be in great shape and it makes a really hot spark. The bearings are nice and tight and the mag turns over smoothly. Bosch Magneto Veteran Era
The history of Bosch starts with many first steps. The step into independence, onto the automotive market, into markets outside Germany, and onto the factory floor of major manufacturing. His apprentice and journeyman years awoke an early desire in Robert Bosch to be self-employed. The early years were beset with highs and lows, and it was only from the mids on that things took off quickly and unstoppably.

More than years ago, Bosch achieved the breakthrough in modern automotive technology: The world’s first high-voltage magneto was created at the Stuttgart works in This replaced the then commonly used ignition systems such as glow tubes and naked flames. The gasoline engine became more powerful and safer – a real impetus for the automotive industry. On 7th January Bosch were awarded a patent on their spark plug and this marked the start of the success story.
To date Bosch have developed more than 20 types of spark plug. Although the ingenious operating principle of the spark plug developed by Bosch has never changed in the course of years, its performance has steadily improved. Imprint Legal Privacy. Thanks to Craig Lewis of Parksville, B. Featured on this page is an example of an original non-script slant pole ignition coil. On other smaller distributor parts such as points and plates, the American Bosch logo was a helmeted racing driver’s face overlaid on a stylized round ‘AB’. Standard Products ‘SP’ was another supplier for some production quantities.
The wire terminals on this coil point outward, away from the nipple, giving rise to the commonly used ‘slant pole’ description. The coil has a steel rain cap crimped over the top of the rolled can seam, as found on all original Model A coils. The coil bracket is spot welded to the can on all original Model A coils. The lockform seam faces the firewall and is not visible when installed on the car.
The lower nipple end cap joint is soldered to the can. As shown above and below, this coil bracket has a supplier date code of ‘4 8’ signifying April In later production, Ford required all its electrical component suppliers to use a different uniform alpha-numeric date coding system.
