Blood Red Shoes Discuss Ambitious Third Album, U.S. Tour – Exclusive Interview

The hardworking duo are now coming to the end of their European dates with very little time to catch their breath before they hit the festivals. A jam packed summer will not only see them play the main stage at Reading and Leeds, but also headline Shepherds Bush Empire. Well you know, when you’re as desirable as Blood Red Shoes, it’s easy for people to miss you, so we were expected that…!

It was nice to come back and satisfy people with something a little different. Did you enjoy being able to concentrate more on the writing process?

Show dates & details are changing frequently, so we’re working with artists and ticket providers to keep our Laura-Mary Carter, Steven Ansell.

Why did you — instead of many bands — decide to have such small album-circles of most of the times only years in between records? Well it never really felt like a conscious decision to be honest, we just kept doing what we were doing and we never really stopped to reflect. It just seemed like what you were supposed to do, plus also we had a lot of energy and whenever we stopped touring we felt really down and missed it so we instinctively went back to it quickly.

What had happened? We hit a wall. I call it our mid-life crisis phase. We talked about breaking up, about changing the name, about starting a new band with a different line up and a different style, we fired almost everyone who worked for us. Well we played a little bit here and there but the most important thing was we had time apart. We both got to discover ourselves outside of being part of the machinery of the band.

We both did a lot of music, Laura-Mary went to california and travelled a lot and wrote a lot of solo material which is very atmospheric americana-tinged songs, and I spent a lot of time producing other artists and ended up gravitating much more towards electronic and hip hop music. It was great because for the first time in ages, when we came back together to write, we were surprising and testing each other and it felt like we were getting out of our usual habits.

What did you want to change to reconnect? And she was totally right!

For singer-guitarist Laura-Mary Carter, this involved getting on a one-way flight to the USA and writing songs for pop producers. Album Review of Get Tragic by Blood Red Shoes.

Blood Red Shoes are an alternative rock duo from Brighton, England. They have released two full-length albums, Box of Secrets and Fire Like This , plus a slew of early singles on limited 7″ vinyl pressings. The band frequently distance themselves from current English guitar music and consider themselves to be a punk band, in ethos and attitude, if not in their immediate musical style.

Blood Red Shoes deal with themes of frustration, anger, alienation, boredom, doubt, psychosis, confusion, escape and ultimately the hope of freedom or change, in their lyrics. The band openly support anti-fascist campaigns such as Love Music Hate Racism , [3] contributing on the second CD of the LMHR compilation album with the track “Can’t Find the Door”, [4] and have also played the feminist festival Ladyfest in the past.

The new single takes Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell into a new headline tour (ending with a 9-date UK run) Laura-Mary and Steven are now back on.

Release Date: Jan 25, For singer-guitarist Laura-Mary Carter, this involved getting on a one-way flight to With a career long dogged by rumours that Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell couldn’t stand one another, things came to.

On their first two albums, the U. With their latest, ‘In Time to Voices,’ released earlier this year, they still kick plenty of butt — only this time, guitarist Laura-Mary Carter and drummer Steven Ansell unleash their angst with more delicacy and pop sheen. Formed in , Blood Red Shoes have played to festival crowds throughout Europe, but despite their winning combination of hooks and looks — they’re every bit as photogenic as their counterparts in the similarly equipped Kills — they’ve yet to break through in America.

Chatting with Diffuser. He also weighed in on the prevalence of two-piece rock bands, the mystery of lyrics and the genius of Fleetwood Mac. You’re in Brighton. Everything I know about that city is based on the Who’s ‘Quadrophenia,’ which I’m a huge fan of. It’s probably not like that any more, though, with mods and rockers fighting in the streets Those people still remember it pretty well. You’re gearing up for some U. How many times have you toured here?

I think the best way to spread your music is by touring, not by getting a record label to promote you or convince people in the media.
